Today 11:47 GMT

Theirs was a “volatile and dysfunctional” marriage “marred by reports of verbal, emotional and at times physical abuse of Elana by Mohammed,” according to an agreed statement of facts, and Fric started divorce proceedings numerous times in the months before her death.

“Lawyers are often among the first people that a victim will work with upon deciding to separate, yet there’s no consistent requirement for us to be aware … to evaluate the risks,” she says.

St. Louis man accused of killing wife after release on bail

Wednesday 07:00 GMT

A Missouri man was charged with murder Tuesday for allegedly killing his wife after a nonprofit group posted his bail in a domestic violence case, prosecutors said.

"It's important to remember that had he been wealthy enough to afford his bail, or bonded out by a commercial bail bond agency, he would have been free pretrial as well. In times like this, we must come together for this family and keep sight of the need to transform the larger systems that create poverty, racism and violence, including the pretrial bail system."

Spain's PM plans to outlaw prostitution, say reports

Thursday 12:40 GMT

Spain’s socialist government has vowed to outlaw prostitution in a series of measures designed to appeal to female voters ahead of the general election on 28 April.

The Socialist party’s pledge to abolish prostitution would require a change in the law as, while pimping and trafficking are illegal in Spain, prostitution is not. Albert Rivera, the leader of the centre-right Citizens party, recently advised the Podemos party leader, Pablo Iglesias, who recently became the father of twins, that “sometimes you have to pretend to be asleep to avoid changing nappies”.
