World agrees on first global commitment to curb single-use plastics

Although Friday's agreement marks the first global commitment to curb plastics, environmentalist groups said the pledges do not go far enough to urgently address the growing pollution crisis that is threatening the world.

Most nations, including the European Union members, backed a proposal by India that would have seen governments commit to "phasing out most problematic single-use plastics by 2025." Guaido supporters in Venezuela 'took control' of diplomatic buildings, US says

Supporters of Venezuelan opposition leader Juan Guaido have taken control of three diplomatic buildings in the United States, the State Department said Monday night.

Maduro has alleged that Guaido is a collaborator in a U.S. plot to overthrow the government in Venezuela, where the population has endured hyperinflation and a dangerous shortage of medicine and other necessities that the opposition blamed on the administration's socialist policies.
