'Don't feed the monster!' The people who have stopped buying new clothes

Today 12:41 GMT

Cowdery is one of a growing number of people who love clothes but try their hardest to resist buying them for reasons of sustainability.

“Each week we buy 38m items and 11m items go to landfill,” says Maria Chenoweth, chief executive of Traid, a charity working to stop clothes being thrown away. An estimated £30bn of unused clothing hangs in UK wardrobes, and yet still we shop for more.

Brexit: Labour rift proves it cannot be relied on, Hunt tells EU

Today 16:20 GMT

Jeremy Hunt has seized on Labour’s split, claiming to European foreign ministers it proved that only concessions to win round Conservative rightwingers will get the Brexit deal through the Commons.

The peeling away of seven MPs from the Labour party was said by Hunt on Monday to illustrate that the Brexit deal would only be saved by addressing Tory and DUP concerns about the “indefinite” nature of the Irish backstop, which could keep the UK in a customs union to avoid a hard Irish border.

Watson tells Corbyn he must change direction to stop Labour splitting

Today 16:20 GMT

Labour’s deputy leader, Tom Watson, has told Jeremy Corbyn that he must change direction or face a worsening Labour split after seven MPs quit to form a new movement in the party’s biggest schism in nearly 40 years.

Anna Turley, the MP for Redcar, argued that “instead of demanding loyalty with gimmicky pledges perhaps the leadership should ask itself why decent hardworking moderate MPs feel there is no place for them in our party”, adding that the “leadership must listen on Brexit and antisemitism”.

Dr. Marc Siegel: Prince Philip stops driving but my father doesn't – How old is too old to drive?

Sunday 02:23 GMT

Though I love my dad’s sense of humor, and the continuing freedom that driving affords him, at the same time I applaud Prince Philip’s decision.

The laws for older or sicker drivers vary from state to state, and no one stops you when you drive across the border from a state with no requirements to one like California that is heavily regulated. In fact, it is because of interstate driving that I believe we need a federal law that creates a uniform system for evaluating older drivers for safety.

Elizabeth Warren heckled at Georgia campaign stop: 'Why did you lie'

Monday 09:53 GMT

Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., was once again reminded that she exaggerated her Native American ancestry and was heckled during a campaign stop in Georgia.

While introducing herself to a crowd of about 1,000 supporters in a Lawrenceville high school, a man shouted “Why did you lie?" Warren replied back “Be easy, be easy,” while the crowd chanted her name and clapped. The man was holding up a campaign sign that read “1/2020” as he was quickly escorted out of the building.
