Trump: School resource officer who stayed outside South Florida school shooting a 'coward'

Today 05:11 GMT

President Trump on Friday said that the armed school resource officer who stayed outside during the school shooting last week in South Florida was either a “coward” or “didn’t react properly under pressure.”

Scot Peterson, school resource officer assigned to protect students at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, took a defensive position outside the school and did not enter the building while the shooter was killing students and teachers inside with an AR-15 assault-style rifle, authorities said.

The difference between an AR-15 and handgun can be seen in the bullet wounds

Today 05:11 GMT

While AR-15-style guns and your typical handgun are both firearms, one radiologist claims that the difference between them can be seen in the bullet wounds they leave behind.

The AR-15 and weapons like it have been used in a plethora of mass shootings in recent years including the Parkland, Fla., high school attack that left 17 people dead, as well as attacks that took place in Newtown, Conn., in 2012, San Bernardino, Calif., in 2015, Orlando, Fla., in 2016, Las Vegas, 2017, and Sutherland Springs, Texas, 2017.

A Case for Wild Flamingos Calling Florida Their Home

Thursday 04:18 GMT

Most scientists, including Jerry Lorenz, a biologist at Audubon Florida who worked on this study, had assumed that flamingos in Florida were, in most cases, fugitives from the Hialeah Racetrack north of Miami, where captive-bred birds have been living for decades.

Another message emerged: Wild flamingos may be returning to Florida, even just for temporary living, and they seem to be comfortable in the state’s protected and restored habitats, despite numerous ecological changes in the past century.
