California man sentenced to prison for starting wildfire that forced over 7,000 to evacuate

A man was sentenced to 12 years in prison after he admitted to sparking a wildfire in Southern California that forced over 7,000 residents to evacuate last summer.

McGlover's attorney made one final request at the sentencing hearing: that his client could be allowed to hug his parents, who also lived in the area.

Paul Manafort should be sentenced to up to 24 years in prison, Mueller says

Paul Manafort, Donald Trump’s former campaign chairman, should be sentenced to up to 24 years in prison, the special counsel Robert Mueller said on Friday.

Mueller’s team said in a court filing that Manafort should face a prison term of 235 to 292 months, or between 19 and a half and 24 and a half years, for “serious, longstanding, and bold” financial crimes. Manafort, 69, could also receive financial penalties totaling more than $50m, according to the filing by Mueller’s prosecutors.

Myanmar hands death sentences to killers of Suu Kyi aide

A court in Myanmar has passed a death sentence against two men involved in the assassination of prominent Muslim lawyer Ko Ni, a close aide of de facto leader Aung San Suu Kyi.

Ko Ni was a prominent legal expert and a close aide to Aung San Suu Kyi, the embattled Nobel Peace Prize winner who serves as "state counselor" in Myanmar under massive influence of the country's powerful military. The late Muslim lawyer is credited with creating the state counselor post for Aung San Suu Kyi post to bypass the nation's constitution, which gives wide powers to the military.
