Under Trump, America's religious right is rewriting its code of ethics

The religious right’s wholesale embrace of the Republican party and of Donald J Trump, both as candidate and as president, has necessitated a rewriting of evangelical ethics.

We took the Brother Trump at his word when he declared that the ranks of white supremacists and neo-Nazis included “some very fine people”. Therefore, we had no problem whatsoever with Steve Bannon or with the president’s statement blaming the violence in Charlottesville on “many sides,” both the white supremacists and those demonstrating against them.

Religion must rise above politics in Jerusalem, says Father Nicodemus

Father Nicodemus of the Catholic Dormition Abbey in Jerusalem has told DW how he feels religion shouldn't be mixed with political strife.

I believe that all religious leaders, irrespective of religion, must be challenged to make clear what religion really stands for.

Mike Pence, Tim Tebow, Tony Dungy have all been 'Christian Shamed.' This ugly form of bigotry must stop

There is nothing wrong with Mike Pence, Tim Tebow, Nick Foles, or Tony Dungy making a connection between their faith and their public lives.

What the media and critics haven’t done, and won’t do, is to point out that their attacks on Pence are part of a larger and very disturbing trend in American life – an ugly form of prejudice called Christian shaming. We experienced Christian shaming recently when NBC sports commentator Tony Dungy came under fire for commending Super Bowl MVP Nick Foles of the victorious Philadelphia Eagles on his faith before the game and for calling Foles’ faith a significant factor in his confidence and performance against the New England Patriots.
