Turkish officials have an audio recording of the alleged killing of journalist Jamal Khashoggi from the Apple Watch he wore when he walked into the Saudi Consulate in Istanbul over a week ago, a pro-government Turkish newspaper reported Saturday.

Missing Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi’s ties to Osama bin Laden explained. The new claim published by the Sabah newspaper, through which Turkish security officials have leaked much information about the case, puts more pressure on Saudi Arabia to explain what happened to Khashoggi.

JEDDAH, Saudi Arabia—Saudi Arabia on Sunday threatened to retaliate against possible punitive measures a day after President Trump vowed “severe punishment” if an investigation proves that the kingdom was behind the suspected death of a prominent Saudi journalist. The Saudi government said that, in the event that economic sanctions or other forms of punishment were imposed on the kingdom, “it will respond with greater action,” according to an official statement, which didn’t specifically mention the U.S. or any other country.
