Russian bobsledder Sergeeva admits anti-doping violation: CAS

Russian bobsledder Nadezhda Sergeeva has admitted an anti-doping violation and has been disqualified from the Winter Olympics, the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) said on Saturday.

As the International Olympic Committee (IOC) were meeting to discuss Russia’s possible Olympic reinstatement, CAS said in a statement that Sergeeva had tested positive in an out-of-competition test for the banned heart condition product trimetazidine two days before her race.

Deaths reported in severe weather in Kentucky, officials say

The weather service said record flooding was occurring along the Kankakee following several days of heavy rains and snowmelt that sent streams out of their banks from the Ohio River to Michigan and Wisconsin.

Gov. Matt Bevin tweeted about the deaths Saturday night, writing that "the potential for similar weather continues to move into Kentucky overnight." With an additional 1-3 inches possible Saturday night, and an already super saturated ground, flooding issues will likely arise.

Estonia reaches out to its very own Russians at long last

Estonia's large Russian-speaking minority has long felt marginalized by Tallinn politicians, but as the country celebrates its centenary, change appears to be afoot.

Independent Estonia took a hard line on them, granting citizenship only to those who lived in Estonia before 1940 — that is practically no one — and making the passing of a difficult language test a condition for becoming Estonian. They had lost their identity overnight when the Soviet citizens became the resented "occupiers."

Europa League: Jittery RB Leipzig hold off Napoli to reach last 16

Shani Davis, America's most important Winter Olympian, reaches his end game

Early last Saturday a group of mostly African American children from a club inspired by the speedskater Shani Davis gathered to watch a woman who had once been in their position competing in the Olympics.

His reach is the little club that still meets every Saturday at the rink on the hill in Southeast DC, where the last word people use to describe Shani Davis is controversial.
