Nasa lander 'detects first Marsquake'

"Of course, if the other three are confirmed then we could be looking at quite a large number of detections over the next two years," the Imperial College London researcher told BBC News.

Scientists say the source for this "Marsquake" could either be movement in a crack inside the planet or the shaking from a meteorite impact. It is the first seismic signal detected on the surface of a planetary body other than the Earth and its Moon.

Baltimore Mayor Catherine Pugh, on leave amid book probe, has homes and City Hall office raided by feds

Two homes belonging to embattled Baltimore Mayor Catherine Pugh were searched Thursday by federal agents as part of a multi-site raid also encompassing City Hall and coming amid the ongoing investigation into Pugh's half a million dollar book sale windfall.

Additionally, FBI and IRS agents searched the Maryland Center for Adult Training, where Pugh once led a nonprofit job training program alongside three of her staffers; the office of Pugh's attorney, Steven Silverman; and the home of Pugh staffer Gary Brown Jr., the Baltimore Sun reported.

Criminal probe possible over Huawei leak

The government "cannot exclude" a criminal investigation into leaks from a meeting about using Huawei technology for the UK's 5G network. Culture Secretary Jeremy Wright condemned the leaks from a National Security Council meeting to the Daily Telegraph, after ministers called for a "full and proper" investigation.

Which is starting to be introduced in the UK this year - could achieve browsing and downloads up to 20 times faster.

House committees launch probe into DHS shakeup, as White House blocks Miller testimony

Democrats on several top House committees launched an investigation Thursday into the massive shakeup in leadership at the Department of Homeland Security due to allegations that President Trump removed top officials for refusing to carry out his desired immigration policies.

House Oversight Committee Chairman Elijah Cummings, D-Md.; Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerrold Nadler, D-N.Y.; and Homeland Security Committee Chair Bennie Thompson sent a letter to the Department of Homeland Security Thursday seeking documents related to recent immigration-related actions by the president and White House aide Stephen Miller "to remove senior leaders throughout DHS who reportedly refused orders to violate the law."

NASA probe records first likely 'marsquake' detected on red planet

(Reuters) - NASA’s robotic probe InSight has detected and measured what scientists believe to be a “marsquake,” marking the first time a likely seismological tremor has been recorded on another planet, the Jet Propulsion Laboratory in California reported on Tuesday.

The breakthrough came five months after InSight, the first spacecraft designed specifically to study the deep interior of a distant world, touched down on the surface of Mars to begin its two-year seismological mission on the red planet.

Jordan demands answers over Democrats' secret meetings about Trump-focused probes

House Oversight Committee Ranking Member Jim Jordan demanded answers from committee Chairman Elijah Cummings Tuesday over the secret meetings he held with other House committee leaders related to their sweeping Trump-focused investigations.

Jordan, R-Ohio, who first raised questions about a secret Memorandum of Understanding, or MOU, between Cummings, D-Md., and House Financial Services Committee Chairwoman Maxine Waters, D-Calif., last week, further pressed the committee’s top Democrat and suggested he violated House rules.
