Brexit Brief: EU tells Theresa May — it’s deal, or no deal

U.K. Prime Minister Theresa May’s request for the EU to extend Britain’s scheduled exit from the bloc has been met with a stark ultimatum from Brussels: not unless you can get your Brexit deal through parliament.

In her extension request letter to Tusk, May said she was “confident” that her Brexit deal will finally be approved by British lawmakers, signaling that she will effectively present parliament with a choice between her agreement and a no-deal Brexit, The Times reported.

May's appeal falls flat as EU seizes control of Brexit date

The EU has handed Theresa May two weeks’ grace to devise an alternative Brexit plan if her deal falls next week after the prime minister failed to convince the bloc that she was capable of avoiding a no-deal Brexit.

In a rare joint letter, the TUC’s general secretary, Frances O’Grady, and the CBI’s Carolyn Fairbairn described the situation as a “national emergency” and called on the prime minister to seek a plan B.

Corbyn walks out of PM’s Brexit meeting over Umunna invite

Jeremy Corbyn has walked out of an early evening meeting of party leaders with Theresa May after he realised the prime minister had invited the Independent Group spokesman, Chuka Umunna.

A cross-party attempt to submit an amendment to that debate, calling for a long delay to Brexit, collapsed after it emerged that Labour’s leadership was not prepared to support a long extension, sources said.
