Roseanne Barr's fate on 'The Conners' revealed in season premiere

Wednesday 09:58 GMT

The fate of Roseanne Barr's character on her namesake show was revealed on Tuesday night — four months after ABC axed the reboot because she tweeted racist remarks about an Obama-era official.

"The Conners," the "Roseanne" spinoff which had its premiere on Tuesday, revealed that matriarch Roseanne died from overdosing on prescription pain pills. The show opened with the Conners quickly addressing the departure, but her death was soon confirmed after sister Jackie Harris received a call about the autopsy, which revealed the cause of death.

Roseanne Barr on her Valerie Jarrett tweet: ‘I was so sad that people thought it was racist'. Roseanne Barr launched her new YouTube career by yelling an explanation for her Valerie Jarrett tweet

“While we wish the very best for the cast and production crew of ‘The Conners’, all of whom are deeply dedicated to their craft and were Roseanne’s cherished colleagues, we regret that ABC chose to cancel Roseanne by killing off the Roseanne Conner character,” Barr and Boteach said in the statement, which Barr linked to on Twitter. “That it was done through an opioid overdose lent an unnecessary grim and morbid dimension to an otherwise happy family show.”
