Liberals buying fighter jets, but don’t have enough pilots to fly them: auditor general

Auditor general Michael Ferguson fired a bullet at the Trudeau government’s plan to buy second-hand Australian fighter jets on Tuesday, revealing the air force doesn’t have enough people to fly the planes it already has.

“The (Defence) Department stated that it needed more qualified technicians and pilots, not more fighter aircraft,” the report reads:. Ferguson, whose previous report on fighter jets in 2012 helped blow up the Harper government’s plan to buy a fleet of F-35 jets without a competition, backed up his most recent assessment with some stark numbers.

Lion Air Crash Probe Eyes Sensor Hazards Stretching Back Years

Aviators around the globe have long recognized potential hazards of malfunctioning flight-control sensors similar to the one implicated in last month’s Lion Air jet crash.

Investigators have said publicly this is what they believe occurred on Lion Air Flight 610, because some apparent problem with the sensor system incorrectly indicated the plane was on an excessively steep climb at a relatively slow speed.
