British actor Albert Finney, known for his starring roles on "Tom Jones," "Erin Brockovich" and the James Bond thriller "Skyfall," has died at age 82. The actor's family confirmed Finney's death to the Associated Press on Friday morning saying he "passed away peacefully after a short illness with those closest to him by his side."

Finney was a rare star who managed to avoid the Hollywood limelight for more than five decades after bursting to international fame in 1963 in the title role of "Tom Jones."

Agniezska Holland's Berlinale film revisits the Holodomor, the man-made famine that killed millions of Ukrainians in 1933.

Jones, which premiered at the Berlin International Film Festival on Sunday, portrays the journalist who revealed to the Western world the mass starvation of the Ukrainians caused by Stalin's collectivization of farmlands. The young Welsh reporter, Gareth Jones (played by James Norton), established his reputation by becoming the first foreign journalist to interview Adolf Hitler in his private plane after his appointment as chancellor of the German Empire in 1933.

'Freedom fries' congressman dies at 76

Republican congressman Walter B Jones, known for changing the name of French fries in government cafeterias to "freedom fries", has died.

In response, Mr Jones and his fellow Republican Robert W Ney pushed for cafeterias in the House of Representatives to rename their French fries and French toast "freedom fries" and "freedom toast". France, which threatened to veto the UN's resolution authorising US-led military action, was the most vocal in its opposition to the war.

In the film, directed by Poland’s Agnieszka Holland, off Jones goes to Moscow, ostensibly to try to interview Joseph Stalin too, but he follows his journalist’s nose for a story to slip into Ukraine, where reporters were banned.
