6 dead, dozens hurt in nightclub stampede in Italy

A stampede at a rap concert in an overcrowded Italian disco killed five teenagers early Saturday along with a woman who had brought her daughter to the event, police said.

The dead teenagers' ages ranged from 14 to 16 and the mother who was killed was 39, said Col. Cristian Carrozza, commander of the Ancona province Carabinieri paramilitary police. The stampede left 53 people injured, with 13 of them in very serious condition, an Ancona interior ministry official said.

Massachusetts firefighter dies after battling apartment building fire, officials say

A Massachusetts firefighter died Sunday after he and his colleagues were forced to evacuate an apartment building while battling a massive blaze, officials said.

The town remembered firefighter Jon Davies, who died on Dec. 8, 2011, when the second floor of a burning building collapsed on him.

Off-duty firefighter dead in suspected road-rage attack in New York City

Sources told CBS New York police have not determined the exact cause of Coto's death, but the case is being investigated as a homicide.

Investigators were seen swarming the eastbound side of the Belt Parkway in Bath Beach near Exit 4 just before 5 a.m. after police said Coto was found on the ground with head injuries next to his 2008 Ford Mustang, adding he was hit with some kind of object. Sources told CBS New York police have not determined the exact cause of Coto's death, but the case is being investigated as a homicide.

Firefighter dies while battling massive blaze in Massachusetts city

When conditions deteriorated and the fire went up to five alarms, five firefighters were forced to escape the blaze using ladders, officials said during a news conference Sunday.

On Dec. 8, 2011, Worcester firefighter John Davies, 43, while responding to a fire when the building he was in collapsed, according to the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation. "Once again, December has proven to be the cruelest month of the year for the Worcester Fire Department," said Worcester Mayor Joseph Petty at the press conference on Sunday.
