Trump on prospect of Mattis' departure: "At some point, everybody leaves"

President Trump suggested that Defense Secretary James Mattis could be one of the next administration officials to depart his Cabinet.

While leading the nation's military, Mattis has sometimes been at odds with more hawkish administration officials like John Bolton, the president's national security adviser. Mattis has at times parted ways with the president, most notably pushing for more diplomatic measures in the summer of 2017 to achieve denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula.

In an interview set for broadcast Sunday, President Trump speculated whether Secretary of Defense James Mattis might soon leave the administration, just weeks after a book by journalist Bob Woodward reported that Mattis had privately compared Trump to a "fifth- or sixth-grader." Asked by "60 Minutes" host Lesley Stahl whether Mattis would depart, Trump responded, "Well, I don't know.

Although an analysis by the nonprofit Brookings Institution has said previous administrations lost a similar number of top officials in their initial years.

Los Angeles councilman announces departure day after fundraiser

A Los Angeles City Councilman raised a few eyebrows last week after announcing his departure from office the day after hosting an $800-per-person fundraiser.

Mitchell Englander, 48, who represents Los Angeles' 12 District, hosted the fundraising event Wednesday at San Antonio Winery in Lincoln Heights, The Los Angeles Times reported. The following day, the Republican said he would be stepping down from the city council by the end of the year to join a global sports firm as its new executive vice president of government affairs.
