Wolves’ Wily Boly denies Newcastle valuable win deep into stoppage time

Tuesday 21:51 GMT

Just as Matt Doherty had headed a winner at St James’ Park in the 94th minute in December, so Newcastle were again undone by a last-gasp goal as Willy Boly headed in Adama Traoré’s cross in the fifth minute of stoppage time when four minutes had been signalled.

Boly was able to beat Martin Dubravka in an aerial duel at the back post but, once he has calmed down from the disappointment, the Newcastle manager should still take great heart from the resolve his side displayed before and after Isaac Hayden’s rare goal.

Wednesday 14:30 GMT

Emmanuel Macron’s closest special adviser has become the latest to quit the Élysée Palace as the French president reshuffles his team to counter the gilets jaunes anti-government protests and an ongoing scandal around a former security aide.

His name had recently surfaced in an investigation into Alexandre Benalla, Macron’s former security adviser, but both Emelien and the president’s office said the departure had nothing to do with a scandal that continues to trouble the executive.

Feeling alone this Valentine's Day You are not the only one

Friday 08:05 GMT

For too many, Valentine’s Day increasingly feels like Christmas – a time when millions of us are surrounded by family, friends, spouses, and significant others but we still feel hopelessly and painfully alone.

It isn’t just romantic love we crave; we crave an overall feeling of connection to those around us – family, friends, coworkers, neighbors, and even the barista we see every morning. Unfortunately, according to a survey of 692 people across the country and dozens of interviews my research partner and I conducted last year, many Americans feel isolated – surrounded by people in their lives but feeling that no one truly sees them.

Gareth Ellis-Unwin, Head of Film and Animation for the skills charity ScreenSkills and the Oscar-winning producer of The King's Speech, told the BBC he would not be voting in the last round of the Oscars as a protest.

Now, more confirmation than we ever thought we'd have, that we are dealing with, yes, the deep state and the biggest abuse of power and corruption scandal in the history of this country.

Ll is good, right, Rod?. Now, sadly, the high level DOJ/FBI discussions to secretly surveil, remove a duly elected president from office, that's only a tiny tip of the iceberg in this abuse of power, corruption scandal and what has been a year's long efforts to rig the system, upend the will of the American people.

Republicans deeply torn over Trump’s call for a national emergency

Saturday 14:29 GMT

U.S. President Donald Trump’s declaration of a national emergency to build his long-promised border wall ends one political problem for the White House and its allies on Capitol Hill, but launches another.

Republicans are deeply torn over Trump’s decision to invoke executive power after Congress denied him money he wanted for the wall along the Southern border. Some are backing the president, while others are vehemently opposed to what they see as constitutional overreach, setting up a potential showdown that adds to the already expected legal challenges.

US woman 'deeply regrets' joining Isis and wants to return home

Monday 19:04 GMT

An American woman captured by Kurdish forces after fleeing the last pocket of land controlled by Islamic State says she “deeply regrets” travelling to Syria to join the terror group and has pleaded to be allowed to return to her family in Alabama. Once one of Isis’s most prominent online agitators who took to social media to call for the blood of Americans to be spilled, Hoda Muthana, 24, claims to have made a “big mistake” when she left the US four years ago and says she was brainwashed into doing so online.
