The plastics recycling industry faces an investigation amid reports firms are illegally profiting from the market and in some cases polluting rivers.

Britain sends about two-thirds of its plastic packaging waste abroad every year, including plastic bottles, yoghurt pots and other items. Exporters charge retailers and manufacturers a rate per tonne for plastic waste, and retailers are allowed to use these payments as proof they are meeting their recycling obligations.

Lawyers for alleged victims blast USC’s tentative $215M settlement over abuse claims

The University of Southern California said Friday that it would pay $215 million to settle claims of sexual abuse and harassment by a school gynecologist while lawyers for hundreds of the accusers said the amount is not enough and the school has yet to fully disclose what it knew about the doctor’s behavior.

The tentative settlement would provide compensation ranging from $2,500 up to $250,000 for women who claim that Dr. George Tyndall abused them between 1988 and 2016, Wanda Austin, USC's interim president, said in a statement.

Trump lawyer claims presidential immunity in Summer Zervos appeal

Donald Trump’s lawyer argued vehemently in a New York appeals court on Thursday that the president has immunity from state lawsuits – despite failure of this argument in a lower court in the case involving the one-time Apprentice contestant Summer Zervos.

Summer Zervos has alleged that Trump sexually “ambushed and assaulted [her] on multiple occasions, including attacks at both his office and in a hotel room”, according to court papers.

GSA denies Democratic claims that Trump intervened to stop FBI HQ move

Rockstar North’s co-studio head Rob Nelson has defended the video games studio’s working conditions in the wake of a controversy sparked by a New York Magazine profile, in which founder Dan Houser said “we were working 100-hour weeks” on forthcoming game Red Dead Redemption 2.. Houser later clarified his comments in a statement to games website Kotaku, saying that it applied only to himself and three other members of the senior writing team over a period of “weeks, not years” – not to all of the developer’s staff. “Across the whole company, we have some senior people who work very hard purely because they’re passionate about a project, or their particular work, and we believe that passion shows in the games we release,” read the statement.
