FROM REPARATIONS TO GREEN NEW DEAL, LIBERAL LITMUS TESTS PUT 2020 DEMS IN RISKY TERRITORY. Most of Bernie 2020’s “bargaining unit employees” recently selected the United Food and Commercial Workers Local 400 to be their “exclusive bargaining representative,” the campaign said. Campaign Manager Faiz Shakir hailed the lawmaker as being “the most pro-union candidate” among the 2020 field and said they’re “honored that his campaign will be the first to have a unionized workforce.”

Donna Brazile: Why I am excited to join Fox News and take part in a civil - and sensible - debate

Monday 20:00 GMT

I am excited by the opportunity to share my perspective and views with the Fox News audience and to help shape the dialogue at this important juncture in our history.

My decision to serve as a commentator for Fox News is rooted in the belief that you cannot make progress, let alone reach compromise, without first listening to, and understanding those who disagree with you on critical issues. And I’ve happily shared many meals and civic engagements with Dana Perino and Karl Rove.

Bernie Sanders speechwriter's 2013 op-eds: 'Let's hope the Boston Marathon bomber is a white American'

Wednesday 23:39 GMT

And then confidently doubled down hours later, in a separate piece entitled, "I still hope the bomber is a white American."

It will almost certainly dictate what kind of governmental, political and societal response we see in the coming weeks," Sirota, who was Sanders' press secretary when he served in the House of Representatives, wrote. He added: "That means regardless of your particular party affiliation, if you care about everything from stopping war to reducing the defense budget to protecting civil liberties to passing immigration reform, you should hope the bomber was a white domestic terrorist.

Tuesday 22:44 GMT

Cadbury has pulled a promotion encouraging customers to go digging for “treasure” at historical sites across the U.K.. The advertising campaign for Cadbury’s Freddo’s Treasure’s chocolates suggested that customers go on a “real treasure hunting adventure” at sites such as Mooghaun Fort in Ireland, which dates back to the Bronze Age, or to “mine for Saxon gold” in Chelmsford, England. “There’s plenty of real treasure out there still to be discovered,” the campaign’s website stated, per screenshots taken by the BBC.

Beto O’Rourke raised $6.1m in a day – proof there’s too much money in US politics| Arwa Mahdawi

Wednesday 17:16 GMT

Sanders’ campaign (which raised money from 223,000 donors) was quick to point this out; a fundraising email sent on Monday acknowledged that, while O’Rourke had raised more money, “the good news is, we more than likely had a lot more individual donations than he did”.

There is so much good this money could be doing, it feels like a colossal waste to have it go towards political campaigning; it seems a shame to be investing in rhetoric rather than real change.

China says it has arrested 13,000 'terrorists' in Xinjiang

Tuesday 04:14 GMT

China claims it has arrested 13,000 “terrorists” in Xinjiang over the last five years, as it launched an aggressive propaganda campaign in defence of its restrictive measures in the far-western region.

“The way they are obsessed with detailing and trying to provide empirical evidence to support their case, but refuse to disclose how many people might be detained … that struck me as deeply ironic,” Leibold said.

Cambridge Analytica was the Chernobyl of privacy

Tuesday 04:14 GMT

In December 2016 a Swiss news site called Das Magazine published a long account of how Cambridge Analytica had worked with researchers at the University of Cambridge to gather personal information on millions of Facebook users and deploy it to position political advertisements on Facebook.

While privacy advocates welcomed the newfound attention to the issues of corporate surveillance, ad targeting, and the abuse of personal data for political ends, the spectacle of Cambridge Analytica obscured the full scope of the problem.
