Florida's Bible studies bill sparks clashes

Florida lawmakers have proposed a bill that would require every public high school in the Sunshine State to offer Bible studies class as an elective.

The bill calls for "an objective study of religion," and "an objective study of the Bible, including, but not limited to, a course on the Hebrew Scriptures and Old Testament of the Bible; a course on the New Testament of the Bible; and a course on the Hebrew Scriptures, the Old Testament of the Bible, and the New Testament of the Bible."

Brewery sues U.S. government over sud-sidelining shutdown

Stuck with a lot of craft beer they can’t legally sell, Washington’s Atlas Brew Works has decided to brew up a court fight with the U.S. government.

In a lawsuit filed this week, the brewery alleges its First Amendment right to free speech is being denied because of the current government shutdown. “The labels we create for our products are speech, they are how we communicate with our consumers,” explained Atlas CEO Justin Cox in an email to Global News.

While booze makers are partly responding by pushing pricier tipples—helping sales by value grow despite lower volumes—they are also scrambling to offer a wider selection of drinks. Some in the industry worry that alcohol volumes could take a further hit as marijuana is increasingly legalized.

President Trump on Saturday accused House Speaker Nancy Pelosi of being controlled by the far-left, hours before he is due to make an "important" White House announcement on the partial government shutdown and border security. "She's being controlled by the radical left, which is a problem, and you know she's under total control of the radical left.

Pelosi wrote to Trump earlier this week calling on him to either delay the State of the Union address or submit it in writing.

Just hours after a Catholic diocese in Kentucky threatened to expel several high school students accused of mocking Native Americans at a Washington rally in a viral video this week, new footage has emerged showing tension developing before the confrontation.

The video clips prompted a fierce social-media backlash, including campaigns aimed at identifying and harassing the high school students. Actress and activist Alyssa Milano tweeted that the footage "brought me to tears," while actor Chris Evans tweeted that the students' actions were "appalling" and "shameful."
