Trump assesses 2020 Dems; takes swipes at Biden, Sanders; dismisses Harris, O'Rourke; says he's rooting for Buttigieg

Today 06:05 GMT

President Trump in a phone interview on “Hannity” Thursday talked about a handful of Democratic contenders for the 2020 presidential election, disparaging some of them including former Vice President Joe Biden.

When asked about frontrunner Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., Trump criticized his record, said Sanders had "misguided energy" and asserting that Sanders "talks a lot" but hasn't accomplished anything. The president didn't seem to think too much of the rest of the field, referring to former U.S. Rep. Beto O'Rourke of Texas as "a fluke" and mentioning the lack of attention the former media darling has received recently.

Ocasio-Cortez-aligned group attacks Biden, says he’s ‘out-of-touch’ with Democratic Party

Today 06:04 GMT

A progressive political group that boosted New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez's bid for Congress last year vowed to oppose former Vice President Joe Biden in the 2020 Democratic presidential primary, blasting him as part of the “old guard” and accusing him of standing in opposition to the “center of energy” in the Democratic Party. “While we're going to support the Democratic nominee, we can't let a so-called 'centrist' like Joe Biden divide the Democratic Party and turn it into the party of 'No, we can’t,’” the group Justice Democrats said Thursday.

Former Vice President Joe Biden finally announced Thursday, via video, that he is running for the Democratic presidential nomination in 2020 – and that’s a good thing.

Today 06:04 GMT

That is unless Republicans. serving in Congress and in state houses throughout the country mess it up for him by capitulating to the Bernie Sanders agenda.

Florida Republicans are getting ready to approve the same drug importation scheme that Bernie Sanders has been pushing in the U.S. Senate since 2017. Republicans in the state most important to President Trump’s reelection are on the verge of handing Bernie Sanders’s socialist ideas a win they could never have achieved on their own.

Today 06:05 GMT

While revenue grew 17 percent in the latest quarter, year-on-year, sales of services to other companies that sell on Amazon’s platform, and of its cloud business, grew at least twice as fast.

First, spread Amazon’s operations so that more communities and politicians have an interest in helping to fight its corner. Amazon already has warehouses and fulfillment centers in more than half of U.S. states, but that means there are many where it doesn’t.

Tom Del Beccaro: The Democratic presidential field is flush with contenders — for vice president

Today 05:09 GMT

If Klobuchar somehow emerges from the field (and would need a big showing in Iowa, which is possible given she is from Minnesota and her more moderate views), look for her to go outside the existing list of Democrat candidates in favor of someone from Washington.

As we consider that question, we would do well to remember that the choice of vice-presidential running mates historically had been made to balance a party’s ticket.

Joe Biden officially announces 2020 U.S. presidential run

Today 06:05 GMT

Former U.S. Vice-President Joe Biden formally joined the crowded Democratic presidential contest on Thursday, betting that his working-class appeal and ties to Barack Obama’s presidency will help him overcome questions about his place in today’s increasingly liberal Democratic Party.

The Republican video notably does not argue a Biden candidacy would lead to socialism, as Trump and his backers have said would happen with many in the large 2020 Democratic presidential field.

Today 06:04 GMT

If Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., is looking for a new campaign song, he may want to consider the oldie but goodie, “Leader of the Pack.” Many, including myself, wondered if “Feeling The Bern” was just a fad amongst idealistic millennials or if Sanders had truly started a revolution that led to his progressive policies becoming mainstream.

So, I realize I may not be the best judge of why people “Feel The Bern.” But, I think I can identify a few reasons why Sanders has the upper hand in a way he did not four years ago.

Bernie Sanders booed as Democratic hopefuls try to woo women of color

Today 06:05 GMT

White House candidate Bernie Sanders got a rocky reception when he gave a halting performance at an event this week focusing on female voters of color, while Kamala Harris was given a standing ovation – but was vigorously challenged in the popularity stakes by rivals Elizabeth Warren and Beto O’Rourke.

Women of color are such a powerful voting bloc in America that they are predicted to be highly influential – if not decisive – in choosing the Democratic nominee for the 2020 election.
