DC archdiocese releases list of 31 ‘abusive’ priests

In what appears to be a show of good faith, the Washington, D.C. archdiocese released the names of 31 priests who’ve been “credibly accused” of sexual abuse.

The Washington Archdiocese is the latest of nearly 60 dioceses and archdioceses in the United States, since the Pennsylvania Grand Jury report, to release the names of priests accused of sexual abuse.

Missing dog found clinging to pipe above 8-foot pit of water in New Jersey

A local New Jersey fire department rescued a missing 11-year-old puggle from drowning in a pit of water Wednesday morning.

Employees at the water treatment plant called the Bayonne Fire Department at around 8:30 a.m. after they heard a dog barking in an unused, fenced off part of the property.

Haunted house actors suspended after being accused of mock rape scene

Employees at a popular haunted house Halloween attraction in Ohio have been suspended after at least one couple accused them of staging a mock rape scene without consent.

Jeremy Caudill, managing partner of Melanie Lake Inc. at Kim Tam Park, issued a statement, saying he was “shocked and appalled” when he learned of “the allegations of a mock rape scene.” “We’re still investigating and trying to find out exactly what happened, and we’re hearing some confusing, inconsistent reports,” Caudill said.

TYNDALL AIR FORCE BASE, Fla.—The Air Force was still assessing catastrophic damage at this Gulf Coast base five days after Hurricane Michael, and military officials said normal operations wouldn’t resume soon.

“It’s going to take time to recover,” Air Force Secretary Heather Wilson said at a news briefing Sunday on the base, standing against a backdrop of mangled trees. Hurricane Michael, which struck the coast Wednesday with 155-mile-an-hour winds and a powerful ocean surge, was responsible for at least 18 deaths in Florida, Georgia, North Carolina and Virginia, and the toll is likely to climb.

The Catholic Archdiocese of Washington released a list Monday of 31 priests credibly accused of abuse since 1948, saying in a letter to clergy that the move is “a necessary step toward full transparency and accountability and the process of healing.”

It includes 28 priests of the archdiocese and three priests not based in the archdiocese but who worked in its schools or parishes. The letter says the list includes the names of all priests credibly accused in the past 70 years.

Dozens sickened in Salmonella outbreak tied to raw chicken

Investigators have identified the outbreak strain in raw chicken pet food, raw chicken products, and live chickens, indicating it might be widespread in the chicken industry.
