Russian senator warns U.S. warship in Black Sea to keep its distance

Today 01:29 GMT

Visits to the Black Sea by U.S. warships have nothing to do with U.S. security and are motivated by domestic politics, prominent Russian senator Alexei Pushkov said on Sunday, warning they should stay away from the Russian coast.

The U.S. guided-missile destroyer Donald Cook began moving towards the Black Sea on Saturday, “to conduct maritime security operations and enhance regional maritime stability, combined readiness and naval capability,” a U.S. navy statement said.

Gutfeld on New Cohen Allegation: Recurring 'Breaking' Reports on Trump 'Like Fred Sanford's Heart Attack'

Sunday 06:03 GMT

Greg Gutfeld said some mainstream media reports on "breaking news" stories based on anonymous sources are like how Fred Sanford in "Sanford & Son" would repeatedly worry about having a heart attack. Sanford, played by Redd Foxx, would often exclaim "I'm coming, Elizabeth!" and clutch his heart during the show, predicting he would soon die of a heart attack and join his late wife in heaven.

"It's one of those 'what if' stories," Gutfeld said, adding that the "business model" for much of the mainstream media is like "Fred Sanford from 'Sanford & Son'.". "Every week, he was certain he was going to have a massive heart attack. And then, he'd be there next week, because people would forget about it," Gutfeld said, likening the recurring gag to how often such stories pop up about Trump.

Review: John Lanchester's dystopian novel The Wall ?????

Sunday 04:13 GMT

In fact, I suspect if John Lanchester were to use his learned, measured, insightful mind to produce a non-fiction book about climate change, it would be a far more distressing peek into the future than his latest novel.

Enter John Lanchester, a first-class essayist and now five-time novelist who has written The Wall, a dystopian tale set in a Britain of the near-ish future. Which makes the subject fertile ground for novelists, whose stock-in-trade it is to let their imaginations run wild and hypothesise.

Today 01:29 GMT

As California residents try to recover from the deadly wildfires that destroyed tens of thousands of homes in 2018, local real estate markets that were hard-hit by the destruction are attempting to make a parallel comeback, though that could take months or even years.

Patrick Carlisle, the San Francisco-based chief market analyst for Compass, a national residential real estate firm, said the northern California markets he studies appear to have suffered after the series of fires that started in late 2017 and were topped off last fall with the massive Camp Fire.

Neo-Nazi attack survivor: 'I won't stay silent'

Today 01:29 GMT

Arif Sagdic survived a nail bomb attack perpetrated by NSU right-wing extremist terrorists in 2004, but what he went through in the aftermath was far worse.

Sagdic nevertheless still finds the strength to talk about the attack he survived, which was perpetrated by the National Socialist Underground (NSU) neo-Nazi terrorist group. "I feel the vibrations of the explosion and relive the moment when talking about it," says Arif Sagdic, apologizing for his nervousness with a slightly lowered gaze.
