A selloff in Treasurys has seen longer-dated yields rise quickly in recent weeks, playing catch-up with a long-running rise in shorter-dated yields.

Gregory Daco, chief U.S. economist at Oxford Economics in New York, said pump prices won’t be a major factor in the midterm elections because they’ll be mostly drowned out by low unemployment and a strong U.S. economy.

“What’s eye-opening for drivers right now in the fall is that prices aren’t dropping like they normally do after the high-demand summer season,” said Ms. Casselano. She said that it’s unusual because historically prices have tended to decline at this time of year.

German professor goes to court to challenge €2,250 library book fine

A German university professor is challenging the library fine system in the state of North Rhine Westphalia after being landed with a €2,250 bill for the late return of dozens of books.

Professor Gina Kästele, who lectures at the Niederrhein University of Applied Sciences in the western city of Mönchengladbach, went to court on Friday to challenge the penalty which was imposed after she returned the books nearly six weeks late.
