Matt Damon is on a Mission to End the Global Water Crisis

Today 09:55 GMT

Four years earlier, the actor had teamed up with White, a social entrepreneur and leading authority on safe water and sanitation, to co-found the nonprofit Water.org, which helps impoverished families access microloans to pay for things like a home water hookup or water filtration system—utilities taken for granted in the developed world.

The water and sanitation crisis affects billions of people worldwide, and creates an impasse for economic growth in impoverished areas as people—primarily women and school-age children—spend hours each day scavenging for and collecting clean water.

Today 05:09 GMT

A group of Labour and Conservative MPs is promoting what they call Common Market 2.0 as an alternative model for the UK's future relationship with the EU after Brexit.

This is a problem for the Common Market 2.0 plan because in order to prevent a hard border between Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland, its supporters are proposing that there should be a customs arrangement that basically mirrors the Customs Union.

Turn back time and get some tax deductions you may have missed out on

Today 01:30 GMT

If doing this year’s taxes made you wish you could go back in time and claim tax breaks you’ve realized you overlooked or forgot on an old tax return, then congratulations, McFly — time travel is possible at the IRS.

Filing or fixing a tax return for a prior year can get complicated quickly because in general you have to follow the tax rules for that particular tax year, Varner says. In many cases, the people who originally sent you those forms also probably sent a copy to the IRS, which means you might be able to get your hands on at least some of the information by requesting a free tax transcript from the IRS.

Monday 23:39 GMT

“We have re-run our preferred yield curve recession models, which now suggest a 30-35% chance of a US recession occurring over the next 10-18 months,” Tapas Strickland, markets strategist at National Australia Bank told Reuters.

Shares in Asia Pacific have slumped after a key market indicator flashed an “amber warning” that the United States is heading for a recession. Bond yields also continued to fall across the world with Australian 10-year treasury yields falling to a record low on Monday of 1.756% in what analysts see as a strong indicator of a downturn hitting the resource-rich country.
