David Bossie: An ‘America First’ immigration policy looks like this

Today 01:29 GMT

Cracking down on illegal immigration and supporting temporary high-skilled immigrants that add value to the U.S. economy is one area where Republicans and Democrats should come together, as we work to truly make America great again.

While our leaders in Congress get tough on illegal immigration, we must not impede the flow of high-skilled legal immigration into the United States. DOUBLE-AMPUTEE RESCUED FROM ISLAND IN MIDDLE OF RIO GRANDE RIVER WHILE TRYIBNG TO CROSS INTO US. As President Trump has made clear, we must include a “big beautiful door” at our new border wall that welcomes high-skilled immigrants, many of whom have expertise in STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics).

Today 01:29 GMT

Moore said: “He wanted to be able to go to cocktail parties, charity functions and country clubs again without people coming up to him and saying, ‘Aren’t you the guys in the business of killing people?’. “This is a little different because it’s a drug company and maybe they did some good – but they did an awful lot of bad.”

On Thursday, the Tate group announced it would not take any more donations from the Sacklers, the family whose most prominent billionaire members own the company that makes OxyContin, a prescription painkiller implicated in America’s opioids crisis.

Suze Orman says you need $5 million to retire — which is nonsense

Sunday 07:08 GMT

Author and personal-finance guru Suze Orman ruffled a lot of feathers in a recent podcast, saying that people need $5 million — maybe even $10 million — in order to retire.

Orman was responding to a question about the “financial independence, retire early,” or “FIRE,” movement, a growing online trend in which people in their 30s or younger just stop working. Generally, these folks aim much lower — more like $1 million or so — then adjust their cost of living downward.

New standards to drive U.S. sustainability-linked lending

Sunday 15:24 GMT

Global standards set in place by loan trade associations this week that tie syndicated loan pricing to companies’ sustainability performance are expected to stimulate the budding U.S. green lending market.

S&P 500 could fall 40% as yield curve inverts, says analyst of one of 2018’s best hedge-fund returns

Sunday 14:28 GMT

Stock investors should heed the warning emanating from the bond market, says at least one hedge-fund manager, as the yield curve staged a stunning inversion Friday.

The analyst of the investment firm, says the inversion of the yield curve, where short-dated yields rise above their longer-dated peers, signals an ignominious end to a 10-year bull run for the S&P 500 index, which bottomed in March of 2009 but has mounted a record-long rally, by some measures, since that point.

Don’t pay kids to do chores — common money mistakes parents make

Sunday 10:49 GMT

“If you do decide to pay your kids for doing the dishes, you run the risk that your child is going to decide that the money you’re offering simply isn’t worth it, in which case they might decide to opt out of that particular chore — a situation that can be pretty frustrating for you as a parent.” “Since allowance should be tied to a budget, parents [should] oversee the spending to help assure the child is spending the money accordingly and make corrections and suggestions if they are mismanaging their spending,” said Schafer.

Donald Trump and Xi Jinping miss a trick over trade

Sunday 08:03 GMT

President Donald Trump has postponed until at least April the supposed deadline for concluding the United States’ trade negotiations with China.

This would have little or no effect on the overall US trade balance because the US would export less soybeans and natural gas to other countries. Congressional Democrats would rightly point out that the gain was illusory, again highlighting the irrelevance of bilateral trade balances.
