S. Korea footing big bill to host North Koreans at Olympics

South Korea is stumping up more than $2.6 million to cover the costs of the North Korean delegation's visit to Pyeongchang for the 2018 Winter Olympics.

The South's Unification Ministry said Wednesday that $2.64 million had been approved to cover the costs of the visiting North Koreans cheering squad, orchestra, taekwondo performers, journalists and other personnel. "It will go to Pyeongchang organising committee (POCOG), Korean Sport and Olympic Committee, World Taekwondo (WT) and other organizations who are in charge of the events," Unification Ministry spokesman Baik Tae-hyun said, according to the Reuters news agency.
