The mother of an alleged gunman who shot 14 people, killing four, during a rampage in Northern California said he called her a day earlier and told her that he was finished feuding with the small rural community where he lived.
4 killed in shooting ‘rampage’ in rural California town before gunman killed by police. Neal’s mother talked to The Associated Press by phone from Raleigh, North Carolina, where she lives and where Neal grew up before moving to California, where he was working as a pot farmer and had recently married his longtime girlfriend before he died in a shootout with police on Tuesday.
Armed with at least three guns and a ballistic vest, the shooter began his rampage just before 8:00 a.m., killing two of his neighbors.
Officials are still trying to learn about the shooter's past, including an alleged assault earlier this year against one of the neighbors he killed Tuesday.
