After he had repeatedly railed against professional athletes over perceived slights to the American flag and military, President Trump joked on Wednesday about a bugle call that is part of the armed forces’ time-honored tradition of showing respect for the Stars and Stripes.
The bugle call was “To The Color,” which signifies the raising or lowering of the American flag on a military installation.
Many were surprised Wednesday when, during an interview with Fox News host Sean Hannity at a military base in Pennsylvania, Trump ignored a military ceremony meant to honour the flag – so he could joke with Hannity about “high ratings.”
In recent weeks, U.S. President Donald Trump has made respect for the national anthem and the flag of the United States a focal point of his public and social media statements.
