With climate change and sprawling property development, wildfires are here to stay

Wildfires have cost the United States more than $2 billion this year, but that’s vastly underestimating total expenses directly and indirectly associated with the fires, experts said.

In fact, it’s the most at-risk state for wildfires by number of households with more than 2 million homes at high or extremely high risk from wildfires, according to Verisk, a data analytics provider in the insurance industry.
