Tech’s Red October Should Flash a Yellow Light

KeyBanc Capital Markets noted on Wednesday that a group of 55 cloud software stocks it tracks were still about 20% above their five-year average as a multiple of forward sales.

The Nasdaq Composite is now off nearly 9% since the start of the month, while the S&P 500 Software & Services Group and PHLX Semiconductor Index have both lost about 10%.

Prince William accused of 'white saviour' mentality in Africa wildlife film

A video that shows the Duke of Cambridge visiting wildlife projects in Tanzania has been criticised for excluding African experts and promoting a “white saviour” mentality.

The film, shown this week at the international conference on illegal wildlife trade in London, highlights conservationist work in Dar es Salaam Port and at Mkomazi National Park. Only one black person, a student, talks to camera during the video, during a conversation about Prince William’s leadership qualities.

Consumers face a new -- but familiar -- economic worry: Inflation

They note, "Once there are fewer job seekers available to hire, real wages should experience additional upward pressure, but this has not yet occurred."

Higher wages boost inflation because consumers have more spending power, increasing demand for goods and boosting prices. Wage inflation is at its highest for low-wage earners since the financial crisis, according to Torsten Sløk,  chief international economist at Deutsche Bank Securities.

Established by German football magazine 11Freunde last season, the Tag der Amateure is a chance for the smaller clubs and amateur players across the country to take center stage, without all the distractions of modern-day professional football. Only this weekend's games are extra special because it's Germany's "Tag der Amateure" – amateur day.

Crew member at filming of Mr. Rogers movie dies after fall

A crew member working on the new Mr. Rogers movie has died after possibly suffering a heart attack and falling two stories in Mount Lebanon, Pennsylvania, CBS Pittsburgh reports.

A nurse who travels with the movie crew ran to assist Emswiller, as did members of the crew, and began life saving measures. Medics arrived shortly after and continued those life saving measures, but the man was in full cardiac arrest when they arrived and was then quickly transported to a hospital.

To top it off, Belarus has a ready-made home for startups in its Hi-Tech Park, a zone launched in 2006 with a special tax regime for IT companies. Also driving the process, Minsk recently signed the IT Decree 2.0, a digital economy initiative designed to simplify business for tech companies, while also attracting international talent by relaxing work permit regulations.

It is, in other words, exactly the type of high-risk situation in which retail investors would be better off as spectators rather than participants.

Stocks set for sharp rebound, but still on track for worst week since March

U.S. stock benchmarks looked set to rebound Friday, following a multiday rout that slashed about 1,400 points from the Dow Jones Industrial Average and left the Nasdaq on the precipice of correction.

The benchmark fell for a sixth straight day, its longest losing streak since a nine-day drop that ended in November 2016, and it closed below its 200-day moving average for the first time since April.

Maryse Conde wins alternative award to Nobel literature prize

The New Academy is a provisional self-organized group of over 100 volunteers that emerged to provide an alternative global literature prize this year, after the Swedish Academy decided it would postpone its 2018 award.

The Swedish Academy, the traditional institution responsible for selecting the laureate for the Nobel Prize in Literature, decided in May that it would be taking a year off following the turmoil related to accusations of sexual assault against Jean-Claude Arnault, an influential figure in Sweden's cultural scene who is married to one of the Academy's members.

G-20 Finance Chiefs Are Optimistic About Settling Trade Disputes

The Group of 20 finance ministers met on the sidelines of the annual meetings of the International Monetary Fund and World Bank, to discuss the importance of settling trade disagreements that have begun to take a toll on economic growth and financial markets, according to Argentina’s Treasury minister, Nicolás Dujovne.

The finance ministers reached no new resolution, but even agreeing about how to discuss trade principles has sometimes eluded global finance ministers this year

The foiled plot has sparked growing anxiety in France, Germany and several other countries, including the United States and Israel, that Iran is planning audacious terrorist attacks and has stepped up its intelligence operations around the world.

The diplomat, based at Iran’s embassy in Vienna, had been under surveillance for some time and was suspected of involvement in a plot to bomb a rally of Iranian dissidents in Paris.
